The Klaus-Jürgen Bathe Leadership Scholarship, provided by the University of Cape Town (UCT) in association with Professor Klaus-Jürgen Bathe, aims to support South African students who exhibit strong leadership qualities as well as academic excellence. Named after the distinguished MIT professor, this scholarship is available to students pursuing undergraduate studies at UCT in any field. Each year, the scholarship awards R120,000, which partially covers expenses such as tuition, books, accommodation, and living costs. To be eligible, applicants must have a minimum GPA of 60% and must be entering their final two years of study at UCT, while also demonstrating a commitment to community service and leadership roles. Candidates selected for the scholarship application must provide various documents including a motivational letter and proof of family income, all submitted before the deadline of July 28, 2025. This opportunity not only supports students financially but also fosters a commitment to public service and community involvement.

Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be studying towards an undergraduate qualification at UCT
- Must be entering the final 2 years of study
- Strong academic record (minimum GPA of 60% with no failed modules)
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Participation in extracurricular activities or community service
- Total household income not exceeding R1.2 million per annum
- Must not be receiving other funding that exceeds this scholarship value
