IMESA Bursary
Provided by:Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa (IMESA)
Description
The IMESA Bursary program, initiated in 2000 by the Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa (IMESA), provides financial assistance to students pursuing studies in Civil Engineering and related fields. This bursary is aimed at students who may otherwise be unable to afford their studies, and it particularly focuses on encouraging excellence within the engineering profession. For the 2026 academic year, IMESA is offering two types of bursaries: Scheme A for non-members and Scheme B for dependents of IMESA members. Scheme A is for students who are studying towards a Civil Engineering qualification or a related discipline but are not affiliated with IMESA. Eligible applicants must be full-time students entering their second year or later, studying at ECSA-accredited institutions in South Africa, and must demonstrate financial need. Scheme B caters specifically to children of IMESA members who have held membership for at least five years. Successful applicants will receive coverage for tuition fees and textbooks, up to a maximum of R50,000, and they will be connected with mentors and encouraged to engage in IMESA activities. To apply, applicants must complete the relevant application form available on the IMESA website and submit it along with required supporting documents via email. The closing date for application submissions is September 15, 2025. The bursary is not a guarantee for future employment with IMESA, though graduates are encouraged to pursue careers in Local Government, reflecting the organization's commitment to serving communities through engineering.
